Dog Tags

Dog tags are the small flat tags worn upon a dog's collar or harnesses. These serve to identify the animal in case it is lost. Different information will show up on these items. Some are required, others are just helpful.

The most common information found on dog tags are names of the animal and owner. There will also usually be contact information, such as a phone number. Sometimes, the tags may show the dog's home address as well as any important medical information.

Many dog tags will also show licensing information. It is very common for owners to be required to license their dogs. In such jurisdictions, a tag will show the identification information. Often, current rabies vaccinations will be necessary for obtaining and renewing these licenses.
